Leading with Compassion and Trust

“With great power comes great responsibility” - Uncle Ben, Spiderman (and also Voltaire)

All successful teams start with trust. If a manager is going to go out of their way to make a suggestion, they have to trust leadership. If a staff member is asked to take on a task independently, that’s empowering them with trust.

So, how do we build trust?

  1. Develop the skills to address moments of conflict and bias with empathy

  2. Learn and practice inclusive leadership actions for more effective leadership

  3. Foster trust in colleagues through collaboration and accountability, leading to greater personal investment in your mission

You might say, “That’s nice, but what does this mean in practice?”

Our workshops leverage the latest research-backed tools and our active practice experience to make sure that leaders and managers going through the workshop have increased confidence in applying inclusive leadership skills.

Leaders and managers that go through this experience together, learn from each other’s best practices as well as build trust through allyship and accountability together.

Here’s an example topics list from one of our recent Leadership Labs:

Leadership Lab 1 - Bias; Power Dynamics; Bias Reduction

  • Guideline-setting

  • History and context of bias

  • Reflections on effects of bias in Power Dynamics

  • Perspective-Taking explanation & practice

Leadership Lab 2 - Inclusive Leadership Practices

  • Anatomy of an Apology

  • Visualizing an Apology

  • Inclusive Leadership Practices

  • Reflection and Commitment to Practices

Leadership Lab 3 - Intervention; Goal-Setting

  • Strategies for Intervention in Moments of Bias

  • Practice of Intervention Strategies in context of Leadership

  • SMART Goals for Leadership commitments

  • Final Reflections

Every 2-hour leadership lab comes with tailored-to-you real-life exercises, a custom workbook you keep, and is packed with practical actions to take. We recommend spacing out each of the three 2-hour labs by at least a week so participants have time to process each lab. This in-depth series can easily accommodate groups of up to 30 leaders at a time.

Don’t take our word for how impactful these labs are, here’s a quote from one of our Leadership Labs Workshop participants:

Calico - What is one thing you learned from the program?

Participant - “Active listening is a must.”

Calico - Have you changed your behavior in response to the program?

Participant -  “I have changed the way I listen to our clients.”

Calico - What did you like about this program?

Participant - (I enjoyed)“The interactions between (colleagues in the program) to help us understand the (program teachings) better.”
